01 September - Warm and Cool Color Painting


Materials:

-11x14 student grade watercolor paper

-newspaper scraps plus newspaper to catch mess

-scrap white paper pre-cut into numbers, letters or shapes

-green, blue, purple, red, yellow, orange and white tempera paint

- palettes (paper plates)

-brushes

-q-tips


Set up: Create warm color and cool color palettes for each student.


Process:

1. Explain warm and cool colors. Show painting with cool colors. Ask students if they could jump into the painting what do they think the temperature would be, warm or cold. Ask the same question using a painting with warm colors.

2. Rub your glue stick on your paper and apply newspaper randomly.

2. Use cool color palette and covered our paper. Set aside to dry.3. Lay the shapes out on newspaper. Paint the shapes using warm paint palette plus white and paint brushes and q-tips.

4. Glue shapes on top to finish.

Alternatives: You could paint the background white and do even numbers in warm colors and odd in cold colors.
